I'm Devin O'Brien, a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) based in Guelph, Ontario. For more than 15 years I've worked in financial operations and small business advisory — inside larger organizations and, for the past several years, directly with owner-operators across Ontario.

I started DVO Financial Consulting because most small business owners I met were getting one of two things from their accountant: a once-a-year tax return with no explanation, or advice so technical it felt like reading a foreign language. Neither helps you actually run a business. My work is different. I sit next to owners, translate the numbers, and help them make decisions they understand.

Typical clients are incorporated (or considering it): trades, health practitioners, consultants, e-commerce operators, and service businesses doing between $100k and $3M in revenue. The common thread is that the owner is doing well on paper but wants someone to look at the whole picture — tax, cash flow, bookkeeping, compensation — and tell them what to do next.

Every engagement starts with a free 30-minute call. If I'm the right fit, we agree on a scope and a flat monthly or fixed-project fee — no surprise hourly bills. Most clients meet with me monthly or quarterly, with unlimited email in between. Everything is done remotely over video, with secure document sharing.
